I get ask this question a lot. “What gear do you have?”… I have a lot of gear I don’t use often or don’t use anymore, but here is what I almost always pack when I travel to shoot an event or competition. I have a pretty good set of gear that allows me to do everything I want without having to carry too many lenses or equipment.

    -D3 body (not shown)

    -70-200F2.8VR

    -200-400F4VR

    -24-70F2.8(not shown)

    -TC20E (2x teleconverter)

    -SB800 Flash

    -SB900 flash

    -Gary fong

    -Sekonic Lightmeter L758DR

    -2-3 camera batteries + charger

    -2-3 Pocket Wizard PlusII

-2-3 CF cards (16g each), some clear filters, cleaning kits, etc.

-At least a monopod, if I have my 200-400 most times I will have a tripod.

An important disclaimer is that I think you can shoot most sports with a decent body and the 70-200 F2.8. That lens is so versatile and sharp and offers a relatively cheap alternative. You can use is with a teleconverter if you need more reach and the F2.8 makes it still pretty good at F4.
